Memory Cards?

I hope so!  Contact sheets from last week need to be printed, annotated and evaluated today!

Turn in again...
The turn in folders were accidentally deleted on Friday.  I would really appreciate it, if you would turn in things in again.

Fine Art Canvases...

-this should definitely work in a series...
-They should follow a theme: trees, grunge, flowers, water, seasons, urban, ect.
-minimum of 3 canvases working as a series piece created of only textures/brushes
with the use of color/composition/variety/repetition... MAKE IT GREAT.
-Use either brusheezy.com or http://www.deviantart.com/resources/applications/psbrushes/
-Resolution 180
-Canvas size no larger than 14" x 22".  Canvases can be landscape or portrait or both.
-The canvases should share qualities that visually link them together.  This should be the brushes
 and textures, colors and theme.
-Progress images will be turn on Friday.
Rubric will be in the N-drive and we will follow the same kind of routine.

Friday

I hope it has been a good week!

I have shared a new tool with you that makes all of our lives a little easier.  There is a Google turn in folder for everyone to turn into instead of the N Drive.  Check your email.  The N Drive is apparently full AGAIN!  If you have images to be graded still (even if you turned them into the N Drive already), place them in this folder.  It will allow me to grade from home more easily.  It will also allow you to show your friends and family your work at home.  Win Win!

To use this folder, click on the up arrow by the create button on the upper left hand corner of the screen.  It will let you select the file you want to place in this folder.  It may take a few minutes to upload, so don't wait until the last minute.  Remember that the documents being placed in this folder should be the PSD version so I can see your layers.  Please check the size of the image and the resolution.  The image size should be around 14" x 21" and the resolution should be 180.  Everything else is hard copy (jpeg, evaluation and graded contact sheet).

Hartman Creek/Other Parks contact sheets are due on Monday.

The Dispersion tutorial should be worked on and will be due by next Friday.

Thursday, April 24, 2014

I heard good things about the trip.  I hope everyone enjoyed the day, and took lots of great pictures. I can hardly wait for the contact sheets :)

Speaking of contact sheets...please get those Hartman pictures loaded into your 'H' drive.  Save and fill out your rubric.  Print your contact sheet of Hartman Creek or other locations by Monday.  See Mrs. Duchac for a rubric.

Finish up your Portrait this week and hand them in.  Hand in the contact graded contract sheet with circled images, an evaluation and a print out of your portrait(s).

If you are finished, but sure about the Fine Art Trio, work on the Dispersion Tutorial from the tutorial tab.

Tuesday

1. portraiture and the value you can find by making it look awesome.. do you need more than one canvas to convey to the viewer what you want them to see?  (this isn't about just making it look nice.. make it be more...  In other words is your portrait more than just an enhanced photograph?  Is it more than a snapshot?)  If your portrait is simply one of your contact sheet images, you are far from finished.  You are required to use Photoshop to make that portrait more than just a picture from your camera.  Read through the rubric.  You must be altering and combining images to "create" the final portrait.

2. equipment checked out?  Please return it!

3. permission slip need to be turned in to me asap.  $7 secures your seat on the bus.  We will have assignments based on the pictures on this trip, so yes, it's important!  If you are not going, you will get the assignment tomorrow during class.  Contact sheets for this assignment will be due for everyone on Monday.

Bring lunch/grill out.
Props, costumes, make-up
Camera, batteries, tripods
Dress for the weather

4. Portraiture due with graded contact sheets by friday.  PSD in N drive. Printed image, graded contact sheet and evaluation handed in as a hard copy.  Graded contact sheets will be available Thursday. 12 people have still not handed in their contact sheets (check Skyward).  This must be done today.  Extra evaluation for the contact sheet is on the shelves of the file cabinets behind the teacher's computer station.

New Assignment:
Fine Art Triptych-a 3 image series that could be displayed together or alone.

Again, you all have a lot of great things to resource but this is created with
brushes and textures.

Fine Art Canvas creations w/ brushes and textures....  it can be anything.  gory and
gruesome/ happy and jolly/ sick/ posterized/ abstract/ real/...think about a theme to
create a starting point. Composition is critical! Create depth, use visual elements to tie 3
 canvases together.

Think Composition & Color... more example to come!

Light Photography
Read through this.
How To Shoot Light Trails.

Light Photography.

Where: Riverview seating area.... angled at river + bridge. Nepco Hill as cars

are leaving/coming to WR.
Lights on people/bikes/boards.. moving by as your camera is positioned by a tripod.
You will need to work the setting of the camera; lengthening the shutter speed.
This is a lot of experimenting and working with trial/error.

If this is of  interest to you and you can produce the material we will slot this

in for a project grade!  Spring Break would be a great time to experiment with light trails.

Happy Thursday!

Something neat to look into.... WE have done some of this through photoshop and using
texture application and displacement layers.

WE ARE going to hit something up today quick...
It is a pretty neat feature and something we could use to create into a full blown project:
Just an Effect.

It kind of goes like this....HDR effect.  Use this tutorial to create a High Dynamic Range

 photograph of your own.

This is a series of 5 images that I took at Hartman.  I adjusted the exposure with 2 images

under exposed and 2 over exposed. The middle image looks like this...

After adjusting the photo using merge to HDR Pro, the image looks like this...

Try it out using my pictures.  It's lots of fun!
You can take your own shots for an HDR photo at Hartman Creek on the 23rd.

Pulling together what you've learned...
There are many techniques for improving your portraits.  We will be using adjustments, filters, healing tools, and the techniques you have learned to adjust the hair and eyes to create great final image.

Portraiture
Complete your portrait shots over the weekend.  24 exposures are the minimum required.
Think about composition, subject, costumes, make-up, settings you may want to add.
This could be a series, it could be a single image created from multiple images or it could be playing with levitation.

The Hartman Creek field trip will take place April 23.
